"Scandalous" CPS errors

In a 2 hour hearing at Southark Crown Court, Judge David Higgins attacked lawyers acting for the CPS for a series of "contemptuous" and "scandalous" errors which led to the collapse of a fraud trial. Judge Higgins listed a string of failures by the CPS which could leave the taxpayer with a bill of up to £6M. The Judge said the CPS only carried out a superficial investigation and a huge number of relevant documents were destroyed. The collapse of this case came just a few weeks after a fraud trial concerning the Jubilee Line fell apart at the Old Bailey with a wasted cost to the taxpayer of £60 million.
